Samjel B’atz

The associate weaves of Samjel B’atz are generally indigenous women weavers who have united in cooperatives as a response to Guatamala’s grave economic situation. Many of them are widowed or displace from their homes and continue their weaving as an act of economic, as well as cultural survival. Centuries of Mayan traditions are reflected in the bright colours, symbols and designs of these beautiful weavings.
