Godavari Delta Women Lace Artisan Co-op
This co-operative is situated in the small town of Narsapur, which is on the west band of the Godavari River. Narsapur is now known world-wide for the quality of it's lace making
Frustrated by the continuous exploitation by the middlemen, Mrs. K. Hemalath founded the society. After two years gathering the women's artisan community and persuading the government (even through a hunger strike), it was officially registered in 1979. It no contains approximately 610 members.
Most of the rural and semi-rural women who belong to poor communites are making their livelihood by this profession.
